how do you feel about what you do for a living?

I have a career, I enjoy what I do most of the time, every other Friday is always a good day. I do not like the concept of a job though. I'd like to wake up whenever I wanted, take lunch whenever I wanted and not have to sit on conference calls with dumb ass people.
Own my own business (10+ yrs now)... sometimes it's a job, sometimes a vocation, but always interesting and challenging.
As defined by Swampbuck62, I guess I would consider what I do to be something between a career and a vocation. I love the type of work I do and aside from maybe playing professional baseball, I don't think I could tailor make a career that would suit me any better. It offers me some flexibility in schedule, the opportunity to be creative and to use what little intellect I have to effectively problem solve day-to-day. I started working as a private investigator 21 years ago after college when the FBI decided to go on a hiring freeze and did not need any more new recruits with criminal justice degrees. I started my own company about six years ago and it's really breathed new life into my passion for what I do and the clients I do it for. It is not a get rich type of career, but like most things, if you're at the top of your field (in your area of specialty) you will probably do pretty well. Most importantly, my kids see that I work hard and try to be a good provider while still making time to be involved in their day-to-day activities. I think I am setting a good overall example for them to follow the way my father did for me. A side perk of my career is the endless humorous stories I have compiled over the past couple of decades. Maybe I'll make my real fortune if I ever publish a book.
Meh is how I feel.
I work for a family business doing aircraft management. The business is cool, but my job is so blah. IT is boring. Once I move back into sales I'll be much happier.
It sure does beat the hell out of the plastics recycling industry I was in for the closer part of a decade.

I do Technical support on the telephone on recycling equipment. Electrical, Hydraulic, PLC ladder logic. I have 3 computers up one which stays on the ODT. Back in 1994 we built the shears that cut up the Russian submarines when they did the nuclear disarmament . Company has been in business sine 1890.
