As promised to alleycat here is a pic from my range trip Saturday. The second pic is just for him! If it has a bayonet lug, it has a bayonet!

Trapdoor. The other is for a mosin. Haven’t gotten into the antique BP game yet but soon!Ooooh yesssss.........
Some good ones there too. What does the socket bayonet fit?
What’s a good model to start with? 1861, 1864? Something affordable and somewhat available to get me in the gameBe careful my friend...the original US Springfield black powder guns are even more addictive than the trapdoors.

The trapdoor patterned terribly and keyholes almost every round. Currently using 0.457 500 grain molds with soft lead. I’m planning on slugging the bore... rifling is good but it’s probably been shot a lot!As promised to alleycat here is a pic from my range trip Saturday. The second pic is just for him! I was eventually planning on a US percussion and eventually an originalThe Springfield 1861, type 2, is where I started. .58cal percussion and parts are still available. None of them are cheap but PedersoliI makes a respectable reproduction if you like that sort of thing. I’d love to have a Tower Enfield .58 someday. The US Springfield flintlocks are amazing but very expensive and it’s hard to find parts for them.

Krag patterned beautifully but was shooting 7” high at 50 yds with rear sight on 100 yds. Any idea why it’s shooting so high? Haven’t chronagraphed the 220grain reloads but I don’t think velocity is the problem at 50
