How many here do NOT hunt?

Do you hunt?

I would have voted, but there was no "I have hunted, but no longer hunt", place to check. I have not hunted in 20 years.

Well here's an offer....
It appears so far that about 1/3 have never hunted but would like to. Hunting season is over (except for hogs and coyotes which are year round). Turkey starts this month. I really can't help anyone out with turkey unfortunately as I don't have the skills or the place (but it is VERY fun hunting and highly recommend it) but if anyone, especially anyone with a child, would like to start hunting and wants to try it out this fall, get in touch. I took a guy this year I met on another board and he shot his first whitetail ever (he was from out west). It was something I'd ever shoot (very small buck) but I was just as excited for him as I could be. At this stage of the game I get as much enjoyment seeing others get their first game and have a good time as I do. I shoot a lot more with my camera than with my gun now but growing up where I did, if it moved, we had a recipe for it. So you hunted and fished. Still enjoy both immensely. If you are looking for some hard core camp out on the frozen ground get in the stand 2 hours before legal light type of experience.... well.... I'm NOT your Huckleberry. ;)
Anyway... offer extended. You guys that haven't yet, REALLY ought to give it a try. Don't let not having anyone to bring you stop you. MOST decent hunters are MORE than happy to show any new guys the ropes.

I wouldn't mind trying deer or other larger game hunting... you can keep the squirrels.

Only problem is I don't need another expensive hobby. And I have zero freezer space, so that would be one of the first big ticket items on the list- not to mention space to put it in the house. Knowing my luck, I'd get a freezer and then never see a deer to shoot.
It's not expensive and unfortunately a processed deer will only yield about 30-45 pounds of meat. If you get a bunch of jerky made, a lot less. There's a LOT of different things to hunt in Georgia. Heck we have a grouse season!

I don't hunt. I think the word "hunt" is misused by most people. Killing a deer with a 30.06 and a scope from 100 yards away is not hunting. Neither is sitting in a tree stand till something walks by, or relying on "feeders" to attract your game. I think traditional archers are actually "hunting". They have to rely on tracking, moving quietly, and getting in close. When I lived in Miami I went with some friends who hunted wild boar in the Everglades using only hand guns. I think that qualifies because of the challenge of killing something that's trying to kill you, and hitting a moving target with a pistol. Thats hunting. What passes as hunting for a lot of people, I think of more as playing a video game.

Well I'm definitely not a hunter than. I don't care for video games either so I'm not really sure what I've been doing now? ;) My priority one is putting down an animal as quickly and humanely and safely as possible. Heck I won't shoot a deer if it's moving. I always stop them before shooting. I like "bang flop". But again I guess I'm just not a 'hunter'. Some of those Florida boys use catch dogs and jump in the melee with only a knife to kill the boar. What do you call that? REALLY hunting? I just call it crazy. ;)
For what it's worth, I don't, and won't use feeders. Unfortunately (for a variety of reasons from my perspective anyway) it is legal in south Georgia now (for deer only, hogs with permit state wide). It's legal in Florida and has been as long as I can remember.

If that's your view of hunting then its no wonder you don't hunt.
