How many remember that we're still in Afghanistan and Iraq?

I say let the middle east do unto the middle east as it sees fit. Bring our troops home, bolster our borders and defenses. Unfortunately I'm afraid we will have a permanent presence over there.

There's no winning. However, if you're the man in charge who orders a withdrawal and chaos ensues, you can get blamed for losing. It would take some guts for a president to consider the situation without giving a lot of weight to the domestic fallout here in the US. Iraq slips back into civil war and/or becomes a puppet state of Iran (more so than it is currently.) Afghanistan turns into a worse civil war and the place ends up divided between various unsavory factions. Media would have a field day. Not good stuff for people seeking reelection or legacy.

In another year there will be soldiers over there fighting and dying who were not even born yet on 9/11. Longest stretch of war in our nations history. The human and fiscal cost of this war is unreal, especially considering we've accomplished practically nothing.

And what has been accomplished is easily undone if the objectives are so vague and lofty as to build stable and democratic nations, which is not exactly the forte of the US military.

We’ve actually accomplished a lot of things. Bolstered the economy to build military vehicles and supplies. Stabilize the flow of opium into the rest of the world. Built hundreds of bases which creates jobs for civilian and host country nationals. Trained thousands to fight against an attacking country. That’ll be used against us down the road but not the point. You should see the acres of caterpillar equipment and MRAPS just sitting not to mention all the other stuff needed to run a war. It’s good business, just ask the bush, Cheney, or any other war profiteering families

It’s easy to forget. Imagine what could be done if all our soldiers guarding worthless borders across the world could do if they guarded a more important one. Say maybe, hell idk, OURS!

Is it because we are still looking for the WMDs?

$$$ Military Industrial Complex $$$. Eisenhower warned us about this.

The reason nothing will be done until after 2020. The Taliban is growing there, we drop as many and more bombs than ever, nothing improves. SNAFU.
