HS student arrested/expelled for leaving shotgun in truck gets big surprise

It's a charge, not a conviction. If he's convicted of a felony weapons charge then yes, he will lose his right to own a firearm. Hopefully someone will establish a legal defense fund for Cole so he can "lawyer up" and beat these bastards!

but with a felony charge will he lose his right to own and carry guns? or will they drop those charges

Weapons on school grounds is a felony. He had a weapon on schools ground. He doesn't need a good lawyer, he needs a ground swell of support of local citizenry and hopefully the D.A. is an elected position...

The ADA should request a no-bill from grand jury and kill the thing so that this young man doesn't have a felony on his record. Barring that, hopefully he'll do first offender and get a "time served," then it'll disappear.

Any way you slice it, the letter of the law *must* be tempered with justice and moderation.

Just heard an interview on the radio with the head of Liberty University. The boy had a Liberty t-shirt on when this happened. He is an Eagle Scout, honor student, and wanted to attend Liberty but didn't think he could afford to go. When this story aired the head of Liberty University was in the area and called him and offered him a scholarship. So at least something good came out of a bad situation.

Every dam truck in my high school parkin lot had a gun hangin in the back window. Nobody ever went around shootin ppl. either.

hopefully one day someone can get in front of a judge and asked to be judged! The law needs to be flexable, there was no intent in a case like this. While laws are written they need to be interpreted, that is why we have judges. I would ask for a trial by judge and make that argument.
