Huge mess..punished for owning guns!?!

i have not contacted her in months. not allowed to and i really dont want to so thats no problem. The problem here is that im being kept away from my daughter with no proven reason that i, a united states soldier was ordered to stay away from firearms. I have done everything i was told, other than getting the psych eval, but thats only because i cant afford it after paying for a lawyer and all of that. im already in debt with this.

I appreciate everybodys opinions. i guess im just stuck between a rock and a hard place. Its easy to make a gunowner the "bad guy"

Man I hate whats happening. There are lots of good lawyers that specialize in these type of actions. From my small observations at some TPO hearings I think you are getting screwed with. Probably have to sell your guns to pay, but isn't this YOUR SHTF moment? You bought the guns to save your life. Why can't you use them to save your lifestyle. (EI job daughter etc.)

It's easy to make a "guy" into the bad guy. The judge may be an activist judge, but he doesn't know you. Your kids mom knows that and she can play that up. What he doesn't want is for some lady to be killed by her crazy husband. He doesn't know that you are not crazy.

How much is the psych evaluation? If you can produce a letter from your commanding officer or platoon leader that states your a stand up guy and a good soldier. I'll chip in $50 bucks towards your pshych eval, and I bet others will too.

Why do people with guns get involved with people that they know are anti-gun? Why do people with guns not do a better job of vetting potential mates?

My second or third date with my wife was to the gun range. If it didn't work there, we weren't going to work.

Sorry, but you can be a 10, great in bed, cook better than my mama...but there are just a few issues that are deal breakers. Guns is one of them.

Of course there are no guarantees. She may be totally into guns but still use them against you if she just wants to be mean. But you're just stacking the deck against yourself when you knowingly get into a relationship with someone that doesn't share core values.

I see this happen sooo very much. In georgia during a divorce the man gets screwed everytime. Those TPOs are crap too. Im sorry you had to deal with all that bro. Then in court they make it look like your some branch dividian. Its crazy. Im going to get married soon. The girlfriend already knows about the prenump. She was anti gun til she was with me when a gun saved our lives. Now shes on the other side of the fence. I hope everything works out for the best.

Bad shoes to be in, sorry to hear about your troubles. Honestly if they had told me no guns I'd just ignore that ****. I'd turn in a hi-point and go "yeah that's my only one".

yea i thought about doing that, but then what happens if i get caught with a gun? pulled over or whatever. Or what happens if god forbid i have to use a gun? will i then be arrested for murder since i was not supposed to have the gun to begin with? its a messy situation and really sucks. I feel like some sort of criminal, its all very degrading. Especially the fact that im military and still all this is happening.

Either way, the gun thing really sucks, and is quite an inconvenience and annoyance, but my main concern is my daughter, and now im being told i wont be able to see her for probably another 6 months? its already been over 4, its crazy. How could they keep a father and daughter apart for almost a year, if it doesnt end up being more than a year! Rediculous!

My girlfriend had never even held a gun when we started dating. Our 2nd date was at the pistol range. Now she carries my Astra A75L 9mm and she is deadly with it! I think women tend to fear guns because they don't understand them. Once you teach them how to use one and they understand how they work they seem to be just as comfortable around them as we are. Many people who have never shot a gun see one and think that it will somehow jump up out of the holster and bite them.

Back on topic though, Godfather I hate to hear about all of this. The family court system is very prejudiced against men and its unfortunate that you have to find this out the hard way. Ultimately though it doesnt matter. All of this legal trouble really just boils down to pieces of paper. You will always be a father to your daughter no matter how hard your ex plays her games. I know it sucks man, I went through a nasty breakup with my fiance a few years ago. Women can be very saddistic and they tend to view things in black and white. Either they are totally in love with you or you are the scum of the earth to them. Just hang in there and dont give up. Years from now you can dig up this thread with your daughter at your side and laugh at how stupid your ex was.

It's not like we didn't earn that prejudice. For every man like Godfather, there are 10 battered women who legitimately needed a TPO to keep from getting hurt or even killed.

Godfather, walk the straight and narrow. Get some legal help if you can. Otherwise, find the grace to have patience and know that your good behavior and honesty will be rewarded.

when he post the letter from his commanding officer, i say we get a pool together to help him out. no man should be seperated from his child.

i know if i was in your shoes man things would have turned out different, although im not going to elaborate on that.

My SGT has a letter for me, i just have to get it onto a computer. Dont have a scanner so i will have to figure something out, ill get it done some way or another tho. I appreciate everybodys words of advice. Thanks much
