I’m caving and getting a Glock 19.......which version?

You need to go to a gun range that rents guns and fire the different varieties that have been discussed. It has been mentioned twice but the Glock 19X does have a noticeably better trigger than the earlier models. Sorry I forgot to mention that earlier. It comes with night sights and has better capacity than a regular Glock 19. I like the Coyote color scheme as well. It is on my future purchase list because I like Glock pistols in general.

I much prefer the gen4 over gen3 simply for the larger mag release. I can drop the gen4 mag without moving my hand - I cant do that on a gen3. Maybe I have girly hands.
I have yet to try a Gen5, but I have held Gen2 without finger grooves - it felt nice but I also find the finger grooves to fit my hand perfect.

I have Gen 3 and 4 but want to carry my Gen 2. It doesn't fit in the billeco holster I use for the Gen 3&4 though. Too loose. Something's different dimensionally. Get some extendo clips for the crib.

palmettomoon palmettomoon ... If you want the Billeco (Gearcraft) holster to fit the gen 2 you're wanting to carry. Simply heat it up with a heat gun on low setting, constantly moving it around until it's soft. Then insert the gen 2 and using clean leather gloves mold to it's new shape. I just received one of his holsters and I had to make some minor adjustments for a modded Gen 3 26 I have. Fits like a glove.

Oh. To answer OP's question... Get a Gen3 and swap out the trigger for a Overwatch Precision TAC.

Had a 19 G4 and 26 G3, I kept neither. they both performed about the same but that performance was impressive in the 26 package while meh at the the 19 size

Totally agree with keeping the AR handy, but with a G19 it will accept any double stack 9mm Glock mag, including the 33 rounders. I carry the 33 round stick as a back up mag on a regular basis. My home defense gun is an AK, though...LOL

Yep, you're right and that's one of the best things about Glocks.

But if you are using full size mags anyway, why not just have a full size (G17) Glock to use them in instead of one with a cut-down grip and slide made for concealed carry? You will have better control with the 17, and a slightly better sight radius. The larger pistol will soak up a little more recoil, and be more stable while shooting.

Also, a G17 wouldn't have a problem with the scenario I posted above, and you wouldn't have exposed magazine hanging out of the bottom of the gun, potentially causing malfunctions if hit or pressed to one side.

I just never saw why people want a small, compact pistol for their 'nightstand gun'. It defeats all the advantages of having a gun 'in place' in your home. Since it's never going to be carried, you can have a 'no compromise' pistol in that role. Yet folks seem to want to compromise it anyways.

Finger grooves are a deal breaker for me (but easily remedied) but then the half moon cutout at bottom on the 5's is not great. Honestly a Gen 2 Glock 19 is my favorite.

Thanks! I was embarrassed recently when doing a backflip on the dance floor at Club Status in Macon and my Glock flew out and skidded across the floor.
