I had an unexpected visitor today...

Well, lots of opinions here. I guess we all handle situations in our own way. As I already pointed out, the law is clear. Its illegal to kill a gator and I had no lawful reason to kill him. While that may not matter to some, its still important to me. Poachers are one of the lowest forms of life and responsible hunters despise them.

It is a residential area but we're out in the country surrounded by acres of woodland and bordered by the intracoastal waterway. The large pond across the street from the front of my house is home to gators, snapping turtles, fish, and its a watering hole for local critters. In fact, I snapped this other picture back in early April when the weather first started warming up a little. It may or may not be the same little guy.

I don't know for sure if he followed some creature over into my yard but I suspect he was probably interested in our 15 pound puggle who sits in the front window and barks if anything moves. My dog is an indoor dog and is never outside unsupervised. The household is aware of the gator and will be vigilant to see if he comes back. If he does, I'll notify animal control. He may eventually need to be removed anyway. But a 3-4 foot gator is as common as a raccoon around here and is not really an imminent threat to the safety of the community, despite what some folks here might believe.
