I know doodly squat about boats and want to fish. What do you recommend?

The flounder gigging adds another level. A buddy of mine set his alluminum center console up fir that. It works. Another buddy has a Carolina skiff. Its a better salt rig imho. Netting , fishing to gigging, hunting. If you are from the area, you are probably aware of the tides and current. I prefer high and dry. Even that allumminum boat now has a transom thats too low due to rigging. One good wave and hes swimming. Has to be careful.

I live in Camden County GA and have never owned a boat. I want the boat for fishing local waters and not offshore. The boat should be big enough for two and I may go flounder gigging as well. Fishing the rivers and backwaters of this area.

What type and size of boat is best for this area?
Engine size?
Anything else you recommend as far as gear etc?
Best manufacturers?

I would recommend going out with a friend or hiring a fishing guide to fish those same waters. Or a couple of trips with a couple of different fishing guides. It helps a lot to experience it before making the boat choice, especially when you have no boating experience at all. And a good fishing guide will be helpful with tips. Most guides worked their way up through boats and can offer advice about what works where. Will also help you experience what kind of fishing gear you might want to invest in.

Go to your local lake and sit out on the end of the dock with a 12 pack and a dreamy look on your face. Theres someone for everyone…

I’ve owned a couple of cabin cruisers, last one was a twin engine 35’ Maxum. Those were back my 30’s and were primarily for socializing and girls. I would love a center console now but dang the price of boats has shot up.
