these are the same type people i searched out and spoke with about their experiences,it was far different than what i expected.the billy badass attitude folks were the first to go.each person told basicly the same stories.those that were actually perpared did some what ok,those that thought they were did far worse.none of them ever thought they would be put in a situation that became as bad as it did.
All of the urban dwellers will kill each other off. Just look at the news coverage of Katrina and the latest storm in New Jersey/New York. They just sit there and wait to starve to death rather than walk away from the damage and destruction for a few miles to areas that are undamaged.
I think a lot of them would, but what about all those who evacuated to the nearby communities that would then be consuming the resources in that town? If the supply lines were damaged and the stores couldn't be replinished quickly then you'd have a mess.
Since the majority of agriculture is in Georgia's southern
regions, it's reasonable to think that Families and communities
down there will last-mcuh longer than anyone within 50-miles
of Atlanta.

The inner city parasites would be the first to kill each other off. The lazy suburbanites would last only slightly longer. I don't have any misconceptions about my level of preparedness, I do what I can but we're far from being completely off-the-grid self sufficient. I think I'm more prepared than most, but definitely not as prepared as some. Food, water, shelter, security. If you have that, you can go a long time without a trip to the Super Wal Mart.

The herds of walkers(can I use that term without copyright infringement.
) will most likely follow the paths of least resistance(the interstate corridors) out of Atlanta when they run out of resources to steal/scavenge there. Then as they reach exits they will spread out towards perceived food sources. WalMart signs, grocery stores, then convenience stores and then homes. They will forage and raid as opportunity presents. Along the way, suriviors of whatever apocolypse will first prey on each other, then be reduced by starvation, thirst, exposure and tribal warfare. The numbers will thin but the viciousness and ruthlessness will INcrease. What will reach most of us who live 50+ miles from Atlanta and are preparing for trouble will be animals. Road warrior, rape and kill animals. Nothing better. If you are prepping, one of the things you need to prep is your will and resolve. If you can't shoot to kill and shoot on sight you will die. And worse than that your family will die...in pain. Do not forget that women will be seen as nothing than a commodity to marauders and "women" is a term that can be used for what we think of as girls. For the sake of your families, you better get hard inside as well as out.

Not everyone that lives in the city is "of the city". There are plenty of us that grew up on ranches and farms, and have a bit of common sense.
