SO for whatever reason I just have this hankering for a rifle in 257 Roberts...not entirely sure why, but I got the itch. Anyone have any personal experience with the round? How effective is it? Thanks in advance

I had one , a great round , low recoil , short action rifle, shoots 100 gr bullets over 3000 feet per second, kills deer like lightning struck them, Its not a rifle you want to have bad shot placement with , but you don't want that with anything,, good luck and enjoy it

257 ROBERTS, is a great compact short action, have enjoyed shooting them the brass was originally formed out of 30-06 necked down brass. One thing to keep in mind brass is getting harder to find or buy. Be very careful that you do not buy the 257 ACKLEY IMPROVED BRASS, and reload it, as it will not chamber. The other big brothers to the 257 ROBERTS, are 257 ACKLEY IMPROVED, 25-06, or the ultimate in the 257 bullet range is the WEATHERBY ACCUMARK 257 MAG, IT DRIVES THE 257 BULLET, almost 500 feet per second faster.

THE WEATHERBY ACCUMARK 257 MAGNUM, has a little more recoil, however the accuracy, availability of cases if you reload, are available. Should YOU hunt these , SPEED GOAT, DEER, VARMINTS, the WEATHERBY ACCUMARK, NOT THE VANGUARD, will fit the bill over, over, and over again.

We have shot all of the above, so consider either the, REMINGTON 700 HEAVY BARREL 25-06, or THE WEATHERBY ACCUMARK 257 MAG, IF YOU HAVE THE BUG BITE, use the BARNES 100 GRAIN TTSX, AND YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

25-06 REMINGTON HEAVY BARREL BARNES 100 GRAIN TTSX BULLET, WILL BE TRAVELING OUT THE BARREL AT 3000 - 3348 FEET PER SECOND OUT THE BARREL. Depending on your load the rifle likes.

THE WEATHERBY 257 MAG HEAVY SS BARREL WITH A 100 GRAIN TTSX BULLET, WILL BE TRAVELING OUT THE BARREL AT 3300- 3600 FEET SECOND OUT THE BARREL. Depending on your load the rifle likes.

SHOULD WE BE REMEMBERING THE HISTORY CORRECT, the Remington 243 replaced the 257 Roberts, however it has always been a favorite of ours...

The above as always is our opinion, AND NOT ALL VIDALIA ONIONS SMELL THE SAME, so now your mission is to make the best decision on which to chose, which ammo is readily available, or is this just a hankering, or do you think you will keep the caliber, the gun, and most of all will you shoot it, if not do not buy it.

The 257 caliber is a great round to shoot...

just a simple suggestion to consider...

My buddy has an older 80's model rem 700 in .257 Roberts.

He's taken more deer with that rifle than he can count including his first buck ever.

It has never let him down and for some reason it sounds like a bomb going off when he shoots it....(I've heard him shoot deer with it) in the woods.

He has a period correct Swarovski scope mounted on it and hasn't had to check zero for years.....it's always spot on.
He will Never part With that rifle but I told him to please will it
To me if he croaks before I do.

IVE GOT A MAUSER REBARRELED FOR 257 ROBERTS 18 INCH BARREL TIMNEY TRIGGER LIGHT SYNTHETIC STOCK THAT I HUNTED WITH FOR 20 YEARS VERY ACCURATE ROUND , RECOIL ABOUT LIKE 243! ILL NEVER PART WITH IT ALSO RELOAD FOR IT 100 GRAIN BALLISTIC TIP BULLETS.IVE GOT OLD 70S MODEL WEAVER 2.5 POWER SCOPE ON IT WHOLE PACAGE WEIGHS ABOUT 5 AND HAFE POUNDS GREAT GUN GREAT CALIBER!

I had a Ruger #1 in .257 Bob that had been teamed out to Ackley Improved. Loved that rifle......a very good buddy offered me a trade and too much $ for it, so I let it go. I still get to visit it once in a while.

Been hunting for another .257 Roberts for a while. Decided I want something in a European Mauser-type action (like a Husqvarna) or an older Sako.

I've got a 1972 round top tang safety Ruger 257 Roberts. I hunted with one year just for giggles and killed a good 6 and great mountain 8pt that's in the living room. I got pass thru on the 6, but put the shot on the 8 in the perfect spot at about 30yds with little blood. Luckily, he went down the side of the mountain so it was easy to see the white belly.
