I have an old Smith revolver. It looks like a model 10 but does not have a model number on it. It has a 2 and 3/8 inch barrel. It is nickle plated with a 6 digit serial number. It is a 5 screw and has ENGLAND stamped on the cylinder. Any help with the history of this firearm would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Probably a cut down victory model. Thousands of them were modified this way after the war.

Got any pics?

I agree with Jeep78 in that it does sound like a Victory model. But pictures would help immensely. The serial number on the butt of the gun would help to date the gun. S&W did not begin to stamp model numbers on the yoke until around 1957. If you do not want to post the complete serial number in open forum, you could post the serial number using "X's" for the last two numbers.
If it is a Victory model, there were only a very few that were nickel, and none that I can find with a 2 3/8ths inch barrel. 2" barrels were produced, but I don't know of any that had nickel finishes. More than likely it has been cut down from the original 4" barrel, and at some point was re-finished in nickel or hard chrome. This was a very common practice. However, without pictures, or the serial number, I cannot say for sure what model it is.
