Interesting new from Kel-Tec

Hey bossman, we here at the Keltec R&D team have been working on a project. May we presemt you with the PR57.

A few of our design initiatives:

Magazines are too simple. Let's make this more laborious to load and expose any additional rounds which one may decide to carry to more pocket lint and debris.

Standard barrel designs are boringly reliable. Let's complicate things. Make every trigger pull a bit more exciting. Keltec has yet to chase off enough buyers with quality and reliability issues. We need to up the ante. We have made the design look interesting, thus, our standard fudd will be drooling over it and we may be able to bring in new buyers.

The main benefit of 5.7 is velocity. Let's neuter that advantage.

Purchasers of our products tend to be lower on the IQ scale. Let's call the lack of features a benefit and call in fine motor skills and make a statement there. Mag releases and such are simply too complicated. Users will eat that up and ignore the effort, time and fine motor skills required to actually load more rounds.

And they have the audacity to say that the drive behind the gun is focusing on the loss of gross motor skills in a stressful situation.

What takes more fine motor skills? Slamming home a mag into a pistol grip or loading and operating TWO stripper clips into a PISTOL. Not to mention reload speed in a kinetic environment.

Just heard a podcast about this one.

As mentioned in the first post this stripper clip loading is similar to the Grendel P10, which was George Kellgren's company before founding Kel Tek.

It's specifically aimed at states that have mag bans or limits, since by definition it's not fed by a detachable magazine. For example this should get it exempt from the CA 'not unsafe' gun roster.

I think the design is pretty clever, but we'll see how well it works with that front of the barrel lockup.

One big advantage it has is that it's not huge (OK, 'full size') like the Ruger, Smith, PSA, etc. guns. Instead it seems to be G19 sized or smaller, which is a big improvement for anyone who wants to carry 20 rounds of 5.7 as an EDC.

Pistol/rifle, 70 rounds on board ought to be GTG.
Maybe pick up a 12" AR upper, just because.

It's true that Kel-Tec comes up with some odd looking and functioning guns but the Kel-Tec SU16-B is a fairly unique piece. It folds in half with one pin and small enough to fit in a back pack. It shoots the 5.56/ .223 ammo. It's accurate and would make a excellent camp firearm or bug out gun if keep the gun and ammo in a back pack and it's a piston driven system. It also hold two extra mags in the stock along with the one in the receiver.
I have owned two and I want another. Problem is you just can't find the model I like. My son broke the front sight on it and I called them. They sent me a new front sight post, two extra mags and hat for the inconvenience. As far as the rest of the lineup I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for.

It's true that Kel-Tec comes up with some odd looking and functioning guns but the Kel-Tec SU16-B is a fairly unique piece. It folds in half with one pin and small enough to fit in a back pack. It shoots the 5.56/ .223 ammo. It's accurate and would make a excellent camp firearm or bug out gun if keep the gun and ammo in a back pack and it's a piston driven system. It also hold two extra mags in the stock along with the one in the receiver.
I have owned two and I want another. Problem is you just can't find the model I like. My son broke the front sight on it and I called them. They sent me a new front sight post, two extra mags and hat for the inconvenience. As far as the rest of the lineup I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for.

I am taking about a very light back up system. It's not your primary means of self defense. It would make a nice back up gun if something malfunctions and you can't get your primary up and running right then. Use for a camp gun, maybe a gun a kid could use in a fix. I would not be inclined to rely on a Kel-Tec as a primary weapon system. Just something to haul around in the pack that's very, very light and could be gotten to very quickly if you're in a jam. I do know where you are coming from though.

I prefer the SU-16CA model for the more rugged front sight. It takes removable mags with the California fixed mag feature disabled. Very handy, reliable weapon. Ultra portable, folded or not.
