Iowa Cop Shoots Dog

1) I've had that exact same scenario happen 100 times. Who hasn't? You just keep walking and the dog goes back to playing with the kids.

2) Yes, in that scenario I would take a few bites from the mutt before I shot my gun in that area.

This isn't a savage wild animal we're talking about, it's a 50lb (if that) mutt that you just saw playing like a big goofball with little children.

A grown adult man handles that situation without drawing his gun 100 times out of 100.
Yep, I would have at least circled the neighborhood to give’em time to leash the dog. I had to shoot a big dog someone dropped off because he would have killed my little Cavalier if he chewed on her anymore. Guess who happened to pull up lol. The officer was cool and wrote up a report in case the owner came around, after he looked our dog over. Been a month ago and still bothers me but I couldn’t get him off of her.

Don't blame you a bit for that!

After watching the body cam video, the way that dog acted was EXACTLY the same way Lake treated me when I first showed up to his house as a stranger. 90lb German Shepherd, much more intimidating. I ignored him, stood tall and acted like he didn't exist as I walked right past him to my Girlfriend's door. Now we are best friends.

Two dogs in one month. Maybe transfer him to animal control?

Seriously, his body language points to a fear of the dog. Also, he had his right hand out for the dog to sniff, then switched hands, moving his right hand to his service arm as he retreated.

I think the dog smelled fear.

This thread did not disappoint. It went exactly as I figured it would from the moment I opened it.

Terrible situation. I do not understand why the officer got out of the car right after he told them to put the dog on a leash. That makes zero sense to me. I suppose he has a right to exit his car, but why? It seems he had no business there at all.

I would like to know more as well. Did the dog attack someone earlier that day? Was the officer called there? Why did he get out of the car? I just can’t wrap my head around that one…

It seemed way too excessive. Very sad to watch.

I don't have an opinion on the dog shooting...I do have a comment on all the cudzo commandos, that are coming out of "their house" with their tuned up AR, or what ever, and going to kill the police....good for you, you will now spend the rest of your life in jail....you can say hay to your children, once a month, on Sunday...
