Is Electricity Crucial To Our Survival? || The EMP

emp ? plenty of lamp oil here & knowledge of process to replace it -lots of propane and propane accessories (done in hank hills voice)- gallons and gallons of denatured alcohol w/ burners - plenty of books i havent had time to read plus all the the ones in my survival library - food to last till my garden takes up - ample ammo - hunt - fish -security covered - sounds like a vacation bring it on - my only problem will be trying not to seem happy and content wearing my tinfoil hat w/ so many that are hurting and unprepared

I like thinking outside the box and with no box at all. I do not believe we are all "happier" and more contented with technology. How much is enough? Is more working? We in America have reached the end of the Modern Age and will see less satisfaction with material things. I was at a small flea market this morning and hardley anybody was smiling, laughing or looked anywhere near peaceful.

Technology has (for the most part) made us dependant, somewhat weak, and fake people. In many ways I think it would be better for the world to start over... But only if it is forced upon us. Bloodshed of the innocent is untalerated and I do not wish for any harm to come to humanity in the name of "the better good".

You guys are waaaaay overthinking this.
1st, yes some satellites do have uranium power cores, but they are not nuclear bombs. detonation is as impossible with them as they are with a nuclear power plant. meltdown, yes. explosion, no. the material isint concentrated enough and even if it was, its not surrounded by the explosives neccessary to squish it down to supercriticality.
2nd, in order for a nuke to casue an EMP that will produce widepspread damage, it has to detonate 200-300 miles up in the air. Youmight be able to convince me that terrorists could smuggle in a nuke bought off the ukrainian black market, but getting it in to low orbit is a whole other order of magnitude of complexity.
3rd, the "every electronic component will die" is a huge exaggeration. things that are turned off will most likely be fine. like cars and generators. also, even if all of that did happen, making your own electricity is actually pretty easy. my junior physics student do science fair projects that make electricity (like make windmill generators out of pvc pipe, a 10 speed transmission and alternators from a chevy at the junkyard) every year. its honestly not that hard if you know the basics.

You guys realize that the life expectancy back in the middle ages was around 35, right? Everyone didn't 'just get along fine' back then. They scraped by. It would have been ok for me as a single man in my 20's. Now, I'd be an old man and chances are at least one of my kids wouldn't make it to adulthood (they're all healthy now). It'd be more than a culture shock, it'd suck bad.

No electricity due to EMP=
No AC
No refrigeration
No long term freezer storage
No cars (unless it's got points vs electronic ignition)
No tractors, 4-wheelers, UTV's or motorcycles
No radio
No TV
No computers/internet
No generators
No alarm clocks
No phone system
Need I continue?

You got me to singing the theme from Gilligan's Island in my head...
