Is the gun shortage over?

I never thought there was a shortage on firearms, just ammo and components.

Gun shortage was huge a few months back, especially when all the riots were happening. Adventure Outdoors here locally usually has three display cases full of used and new Glocks. When I went by there a month ago they had maybe 4-5 guns in that whole space.

Every gun useful for self defense has been out of stock since March. Semis and revolvers, ARs, AKs, pump shotguns, etc. etc. etc. That's why I was surprised that these friends were able to find a Glock 19 and a SIG P365 without any real trouble. They've been really scarce the last 10 months or so.

It's the opposite in middle GA. All the budget and mid range guns have been gone since the spring. Nothing left but Kimbers and a few Sigs.

That's what I was seeing too. Anything self-defense related and low to mid priced was stripped bare.

Gun shortage never happened. Ammo shortage will be around for awhile.

LOL... you obviously haven't been trying to help friends find guns in the last 10 months or so. Pick your favorite self-defense gun and go to a store. Even if they have it ask them how recently it was that they were able to get them again.

We had the highest gun sales in history this year... Blew 2013 out of the water and left nothing but hunting guns on the shelves for most of the year.

Yeah my recently passed stepfather was trying to find a pistol gripped Maverick 88 or Mossberg for one of his good coon hunting friends last summer. I looked everywhere and came up empty. And last week I saw a Maverick 88 on Gunbroker with a bid of over $500.00 with 2 days to go. For a $279.00 shptgun. Until this year I used to win auctions on Gunbroker for RG snubs and Hi Point pistols for cheap enough to make it worth paying for shipping and transfer. Not this year. RG snubs in 38Special that are really worth around $100.00 are selling for $200.00 and higher, plus $25.00 in shipping and another $25.00 in transfer fee. Might as well find a used Taurus or Rossi snub locally.

One LGS I go to fairly often still has stuff in stock, but most of them are the less common items in the odd calibers. The standard carry pistols or ARs are not on the shelves. They still have some used pistols though....

OK, not like 2019, where you could find everything you wanted, but I've had two friends go to stores in the last few weeks and find exactly what they were looking for at reasonable prices.

It'll obviously be a while before we're back to 'normal' (assuming Biden doesn't/can't immediately jack us over), but I think all the new gun buyers who wanted one have one now. Also, with the rioting season closing down (nobody riots in cold weather) fewer newbies are feeling driven to buy their first gun.

I know there's a lot of empty shelves, but unlike ammo, I get the feeling we've turned the corner on guns and it will start getting a lot better in the next few months.
I think that could be true on ammo also I am already seeing more around then I did a month ago

Guns aren't much good without ammo... My fear is this Biden administration will keep ammo in short supply in addition to 2nd amendment attacks. I fully expect some crisis (likely made up) where the government restricts or buys ammo components like powder, primers etc. Essentially they will get their gun control because only the wealthiest will be able to afford to buy the ammo... They can do this without ever fighting the 2nd amendment battle.

Interesting... I'm seeing a lot less. A month or two ago 22 was still on the shelves at AO, now they are completely bare.
I am seeing more in my area then a month ago there was nothing on the shelves at my gun & ammo /shooting range This weekend there are 9mm ,38,223 ,410,22, most everything and when I was a gun show this weekend i ask the main guy selling ammo how much 9mm i could buy and he said back a truck up to his

Meanwhile Vista Outdoors is reporting 1 billion in backorders.

Gun shows probably aren't the metric to use for ammo availability. Sellers there will have ammo to sell, otherwise they wouldn't show up. You are probably seeing all the available ammo in the region concentrated at any particular gun show.

I'm thinking more at retail. Either big-box or Mom&Pop stores. I'm not seeing any improvement in ammo availability there, in fact it's worse from what I can tell. Probably because it's all getting scarfed up to resell at gun shows.
