Would not be surprised if it is real. during the early days of USPSA shooters would do anything for increased capacity, i have saw some strange stuff back in the 80's during completion. 1911 was the platform everyone used back then.

Use the pinky toe.
That is a must when shooting 45ACP, since it is such a weak round. It has no "stopping power" at all.
Yes, it's a real - and very rare - thing. It is my understanding that they were issued to pilots in WWI. I've only ever seen one in real life and it was not function tested. Just shown to me.
