Item Description: Well guys, this had been a frustrating day.

I purchased this 2005 Ford Mustang from an individual off of Facebook. They still owed money on it at Navy Federal, so we met at the bank and I purchased it there. They provided me with a notarized lien release and I filled out a bill of sale with the buyer. The title was supposed to be sent directly to me.

Fast forward a few weeks and the title has not arrived. I have tried getting ahold of the seller, but they have not returned my calls. I followed up with Navy Federal and they are now saying that they never had the title to the vehicle because the loan was opened in Kentucky where apparently they don’t collect the title from the owner.

I have tried to reach the seller, but he has not responded. I have tried calling him and texting him to no avail. My wife and I are now expecting our first child and frankly, I don’t have the bandwidth to deal with this right now.

there are a few options. Go on a rabbit chase to find the original title. Get a bonded title through the state, which after 3 years becomes a normal title. Use it as a track toy.

If I didn’t have a baby on the way, I would definitely keep it as a track toy. This car is easily worth 11 to 12 grand. Blue book trade in on it is about that.

It’s a 2005 GT Premium with only 41k original miles. Clean carfax. Hopefully someone can take advantage of getting it 40% off retail and deal with the headache. I am losing a lot of money at this price. Will maybe consider partial trades.

If they signed the release take that and go get a bonded title
Cost 150 bucks
That is proof they released it to you

It’s very simple to do being you have proof they signed off to release the title

I bet money it was sent to the other person and they
Moved and moved on

just go get bonded title my friend and then wait about three weeks and list it up for a lot more

Just called my county office and they gave me the number to an insurance agency that can provide me with a bonded title. What a relief!! I’ve honestly never heard of a title bond so I really appreciate you guys letting me know what to do.
now once you get this done you can sell it for retail and or trade in for more family vehicle ... you're very welcome my friend
glad I could help someone , that got a bad end of a deal ...need anymore info hit me up

All the more reason I'll never buy a car unless the title is in hand. While searching for a vehicle to buy I came across a lot that were priced cheap, but people just wanted to sell it even though they already had a loan on it & told me it only needed a bonded title to transfer.

If it was me, I'd still go for the original title. My understanding on a bonded title is that the original owner can come and claim the car as his with in 3 years of the creation of the bonded title and it's there's to take. After that the person who has the bonded title becomes the full owner of it.

Seems more complicated for a newer car as opposed to older vehicles where the original owner is passed or it was abandoned.

oh I didn’t realize this way the case. Though, I do have a bill of sale and his drivers license and a printed copy of our entire conversation leading up to and after the purchase of the vehicle so I think he would have a tough time proving the vehicle is his.

anyone ever hear of this happening before?

I got scammed on here(ODT) by a member few years ago for a 2005 honda civic. Title has a lien on it(I was stupid and didn’t look) we signed bill of sale. Appearently he stole the car from his son? He knew exactly what he was doing. I ended up having to do the same thing. I sold it as soon as I could when I get the bonded title because I wanted nothing to do with it anymore..
