Get some dehumidifier rods then.
Any safe is better than none. As far as "safety", teaching them is the most effective. My son, knew from his earliest age, "Don't touch guns without Daddy around".

If you need that storage primarily to keep small hands away from your guns and DDs, rather than for genuine security, OR, you think you'll have to move the safe around in future, I'm gonna risk some pushback and say you might want to consider - rather than a safe - a good RSC (Residential Security Container). It'll give you no fire protection whatsoever.

When you take into consideration that given a moderate amount of time alone in your home with an angle grinder, a bad guy will be able to get his hands on your collection no matter how massive your safe is. Sometimes a well constructed RSC such as a SecureIT Agile system provides everything you need.

Not a shareholder, I get no commissions or benefit from the endorsement, and they're not the only company offering these (don't confuse them with the lockable cabinets that some gun accessory companies sell).

You said 20 guns but you didn't give the 'mix' of long guns vs handguns. It's way too small for 20 long guns, but with some of the accessories, you can certainly get a mix of half a dozen long guns and 9 or 10 handguns.

Yes, an angle grinder and 20 minutes will get a determined thief into your collection, but with all the same gear and a bit more time, it'll let him into most safes, unless you've done some creative things to stop him having free access to the corners of the unit.

Congrats on the addition to the fam !!
As far as the safe… look at Liberty and/or Rhino …. Also some of the store brands make good ones too. Most of the time they are made by the big safe companies, just have a different name plate on them. The main thing is to make sure it fits your needs as far as space, fire rating, etc., Also figure that you will need room to expand or else you will be looking for a replacement in a few years.
You may also consider a pre-owned that someone has outgrown ! Much cheaper if you going to pay cash !!
Good luck !
Buy something that is way too big for what you need now and you won’t be looking for a replacement in a couple/few years !! :cool-new:

A Rhino is fine to start. Mine hold about 40. Got it some years ago at Costco for about $600. Bolt it to the floor and add a dehumidifier rod. Mine had the SG electronic pad. I prefer the SG dial but wife likes the electronic pad.
A 20 gun holds about 12 long guns. It is the pistol grip on an AR that takes up space.

Congrats. I bought my first when I started having kids. Now I have two safes and realize how dumb I was for not having one sooner. I’d get the nicest one I could afford. Thanksgiving and Christmas is coming up and you should look around and be able to find a good deal! I would take a good look at browning only becuase of the door. Mine has ten rifle slots on the door. So when you open it that first row of guns are out of your way. I hate my liberty because I have to bury the ones in the back. I’d also get a tall one. The one extra shelf above the guns is nice. You’ll be putting more than guns in it.

A little dad and husband advice. Don’t get so caught up in giving your kids a good life that you forget to give them a good day. Make sure you and your wife take time for each other. If you two are happy the kid will be happy. Put your relationship with your wife before the kids. Jesus loves yall! Good luck dad!

Look at Sam’s and other large department type stores….i think we got mine at Sam’s back 20+yrs ago and at the time it was cheaper there than most anywhere .
