Kimber Ultra carry plus is it worth the money?

I have a kimber ultra II for $850 brand new with night sights. For $1500 I would go for a Dan Wesson as well, mine is accurate, and reliable for the first 500 I put through it but I wouldn't buy a kimber for much more than $1000.

i would get a colt officer model i have hade one for 20 years great gun over 2000 rounds with never a failure

I've got a Kimber Ultra. I am one of the apparent few that had nothing but problems with it new out of the box. Really ticked me off to spend that kind of money and it not work...

It had consistent failure to extract issues. After spending hours reading various stuff, I finally tightend the extractor. It nows runs OK, but still FTE, about once every few hundred rounds. It therefore does not have my full confidence yet.

It is very smooth and accurate...

Overall, I've been disappointed with my purchase.

I had a Kimber Pro Carry II and it was a decent gun, but the factory mag was garbage. Replaced with Wilson mags and it ran fine and was plenty accurate. I now have a Kimber Super Carry Pro HD and it has been 100% percent reliable with all mags I've used so far and it has pretty good fit and finish. As much as I love it, if the gun store would have had the Dan Wesson Bobtail a week earlier, I would have bought it instead.

I would not buy any 1911 with a 3 inch barrel. I actually would not buy any 1911 with a barrel less than 4.25 inches.

Got my Ultra Carry II on a trade.. Put Trijicon NS on it(green front orange rear).. Got some CrimsonTrace grips off here for $180... Put over 500 thru it in the past 3 months.. No FTE or FtF's. Very accurate and it's so sexy I actually feel bad shooting and carrying it.. Get what makes you happy!

Thanks for all the input. It certainly is all food for thought. It is really hard to come off my hip with $1500.00 for one gun especially a CCW. I think the Rolex comparison is the best. I guess performance is much more important than BLING!!!!

Love mine. Have had 6 Kimbers over the past 5 years (still have 3, including the Ultra Carry Plus)

My Ultra is still BNIB and I'd part with it for $1300 with a couple of WC mags to boot.
