Landed my very first Striped Bass at Lake Lanier today. It's been nearly 4 years chasing after these big ones on the kayak. Water clarity was stained, clear mid lake, and heavy stained up the creeks due to the recent rain. Only landed this one but now in search for that 20+ pounder!

I had 4 different setups. Caught the stripe off an 8ft Ugly Stik Medium action, Offshore Angler Frigate 6000 series, spooled with Powerpro 40# test moss green and Carolina rigged using 1 oz egg weight and Seaguar blue fluorocarbon 12# as leader. Size 1 circle hook is a must! Bait of choice was a 6 inch Gizzard Shad, which I had hooked on for about 2 1/2 hours (gota love cold weather fishing! Keeps the bait alive longer). Free lined 100ft back in 45-65ft of water at around 1.8-2.3 mph

Congrats,I have never heard of free lining a bait with a weight on it.I free line with no weights and when the fish go deep I down line with a 2 oz weight.
