Brian Newt Beaird, 51, died at a hospital 43 minutes after the chase ended Friday night, said Los Angeles Coroner's Office Capt. John Kades. No cause of death was reported, and an autopsy would be conducted by Tuesday, he said.
Edith Beaird, Brian Beaird’s former sister-in-law, said the man was a disabled veteran, adding that he was not married and did not have children. She declined to comment further.
Beaird's father and brother declined to comment on the incident.
IMO--- damn, 20 cops concentrating on the DUI suspect after the wreck. NOT one of them checked on the other driver involved in the wreck until AFTER they shot the DUI suspect. DUI suspect shot in the back by the LAPD with lethal force which was not necessary.

NBC4 in Los Angeles spoke to Gilbert Vasquez, a longtime friend of 51-year-old Brian Beaird who said he was outraged that LAPD officers would shoot an unarmed man, especially considering Beaird's mental illness. He added: P
"He heard voices so he probably saw the helicopter lights, the lights of the cops pursuing him. It scared the hell out of him."
