Laying Hands on Higher End Precision Rifles.

Impact Precision use to have a nice system for barrel changes.

I want rifle, scope and accessories under 10#, preferably around 8#.

So caliber wise you wouldn't want a magnum:
6.5 cm
6 arc
.243
.308
6.5 Grendel

I left out a BUNCH of great calibers because these you can find on the shelves.
Mostly .308, 6.5 cm and 6.5 Grendel.

I ran a .243 Ackley Improved GAP rifle for a bit, great round.
That leads in to barrel life.
A lot of powder burning through a small hole will accelerate bore throat erosion and that makes you love easy barrel replacement.

I have a couple of guns that the barrel is fitted/epoxied and if a barrel change is required they recommend shipping back over seas.

The above leads me to 6.5's, .308 and 5.56 for fun conventional shooting.
Now if your into reloading your options are vastly more complicated.

So let's say:
Small action
Carbon fiber wrapped barrel
Composite stock
*6.5 cm or .308 minimum 18" barrel length for my personal reasons and will run suppressed on all rifles.

You make great points but I think I'm looking at things a little different.

I looked at going the custom rifle direction but with the prices for good components I felt like I was creeping into complete system money.

Weight isn't really an issue. I won't be running and gunning every weekend. Plus with the added weight and the can, there will hardly be any recoil which will make learning to shoot easier on the Mrs. down the road.

I'll be shooting either 6.5CM or 6CM on the side. Grendel and ARC are out because I don't want to deal with the "odd ball" .441(I think) bolt face. I love a good Ackley (my hunting rifle is a Tikka 280AI with a Proof Sendero barrel and I also have a 257AI sitting in the safe). The 243AI and 260AI are awesome and seem to out perform the Creeds but I don't reload so that's out.

Might be worth a call to Clyde's Armory in Athens. Atlanta Rifleworks is subject to coming up with just about anything as well. There used to be a high end gun shop outside Savannah that I can't remember the name of that had a Sako TRG on the wall on my last work trip down there.

Thanks for the heads up.

Ok last recommendation…lol. There’s always the terminus actions as well. They allow quick barrel swaps. My brother has the Zeus.

Or just stick with AI. Win/win. Which ever way you go.

Does anyone know of any stores in North GA that might have either Accuracy International, Barrett MRAD’s or Sako TRG’s on the wall? I’m looking to take the next step up from my custom Tikka’s but want to put my hands on them first.
Any help would be awesome.
Thanks in advance.
