The First Treaty of Paris in 1763 gave all of the previously Spanish colony of Florida to the British. That is when my family moved down there from South Ga and Alabama. I have ancestors who served during what was known as the Indian wars as well as with regiments from Florida during the Civil War. I still have family down there but it has gotten so bad that I had to get out and I rarely even go for a visit. When I do, I don't stay for long. Swamps and woods where I used to hunt are all covered up in condos, apartments and shopping centers now. My dad and I used to coon hunt when I was a young boy on the land that is now Disney World.
