Let's CELEBRATE Takedown Rifles!

I'm leery of take-down rifles with the scope on one section, and the barrel on the other.
Or the rear sight on the receiver, but the front sight on the barrel.
Any misalignment of the sections= the sights will be off.
Does the point of impact ever shift due to disassembly and reassembly?

On older models, yes. Newer ones have a better lockup that prevent that. There are a lot of guys on YouTube addressing that concern and doing videos where they shoot, take it apart, put it back together, and shoot again. No noticeable difference from what I've seen. Now if you're talking several hundred yards, I could see where it might, but realistically I wouldn't use a TD for long distance precision shooting anyway. I see them as more of a plinking, get-home-bag, SHTF, hunting up to 100/150 yards solution.

All good questions and I am interested as well. :pop2:

I have a Ruger take down with threaded barrel. I just bought a Dead Air Mask last night and the long wait begins!! :blue: I have time to decide but want to have it scoped and ready when the stamp arrives but I am also concerned about the takedown accuracy and will go another direction if I have any idea it will be an issue. The Ruger has not been shot and if it is going to be dead on I will keep it for sure, if not I would like to know before going to the trouble of scoping and before shooting it.

Does anyone have one of these and what have you experiences with their accuracy been?

Thanks for any input.

Intrinsically, the takedown dies not have the repeatable accuracy of standard 10/22s. Just depends on what you are ultimately wanting the rifle to do.

Just curious, is that your opinion or your own experience? Can you provide more data (type Ammo, distance, groupings, etc) to show this? No other way to ask that without it sounding rude which is not my intention; my own experience and from the research that I've done just doesn't show the same issues of accuracy.

If you've got the TD bug then you need to try the AR-7/Henry Survival rifle where everything fits in the stock. I have one of the Henrys and love it. Accuracy is more than adequate for squirrel hunting. With CCI mini-mags I've never had a jam.

(Plus James Bond used one to take down a helicopter....so it's got that going for it.)

I did have that one at one time and it was pretty cool (especially since it the stock would float). I just didn't see a need to keep it since I had the 10/22 TD.

I've got a Winchester 61. Marlin mod 15? 10/22 TD. Aero Survival Rifle in 9mm. Technically my Suomi 9mm carbine breaks down...

I think I have a sickness...

Experience. Like you said, doesn't really matter if just plinking, but if precision is the name of the game, they probably aren't the way to go. I have a takedown with a threaded barrel. I run CCI SV (which is my overall go-to), GemTech, Federal Target, etc. Distance typically no more than 50 yds. It serves a purpose for me. If I am going precision and small groups, I'm grabbing one of my built up 10/22's or CZ 455
