LIBERTY GUN SAFE NOT WORKING!!!!!

Ditto. How many times has a manual window crank in a car failed versus the electric motor in a power window in a car?
Speaking of hand cranked windows. I mustered out in 1976 after 8 years and bought a new Chevy Nova....the driver's crank window came unglued from the track piece that went up and down. That was a 'Monday' car....worst defective piece of crap I ever owned. Not long after I bought it, the freeze plugs corroded out and the internal heater core started leaking.....and I had to fight to get them to pull the drive shaft and find out what was 'tinkling' inside when you drove slow - turns out it was welding spatter inside the shaft assembly. Nothing but a damned shop queen every week until the warranty ran out. IT WAS THE LAST CHEVROLET I EVER BOUGHT.

When was your last yearly service on your mechanical lock?

I'm assuming by the yearly in your comment is how often they need to be looked at. But is that really how often they should be serviced? I have never had one serviced. What does the service do for them?

I didn’t even know that was still a thing anymore? Are you posting this from your typewriter?
Ha! It used to be that the gear wheel the crank used was the same one an electric motor gear could mesh with - the electric windows option. My guess is that now if you wanted hand cranks you'd have to pay extra for it as an option....LOL

I won't own an electronic safe, wires corrode, batteries leak, & an EMP can happen.

People can can thumb their nose's on mechanical locks all they want, but the chances of them working in a 100 years is greater than any electronic keypad/fingerprint lock.

Lots of moving parts, mostly brass.... you would surprised how worn out a well loved mechanical lock gets over time, not even a lot of time...

I suggest anyone interest in safes read the AmSec thread on AR15.com... the head of engineering talks extensively about the call-out rates between mechanical and electronic locks. Bottom line: fewer problems with the latest generation of electronic AmSec locks than with S&G mechanicals.

Not speculation-- facts.

Very, very long thread though. But it answers all the questions about safes that pretty much anyone ever asks, in detail.
