Look what I found at the pound

I got a cat from the pound. She hates me. We stare at each other with evil intentions. I control the food, *****!

Grats.

Wife and I finally decided on getting a dog so we stopped in at the shelter yesterday. Walked the row a few times meeting the eagers and not so muchs, then spotted a beautiful red husky. Stopped and put my hand to the gate so he could sniff but he wasn't overly enthusiastic. Stuck a finger through and gave him a scratch on the neck and he slowly leaned into it. Spent 5 minutes getting comfortable with each other than talked to the trustee on hand and we took him out for a walk in the enclosed yard. As soon as we hit the outside he hit the bushes ...ALL of them, then headed for a corner for a more solid contemplation of the great outdoors. ;) Let's just say he's house trained VERY well, judging by his retention. After that he and I walked the yard a few times. He was responsive to the leash and in a minute I was walking him with the leash draped around one finger. Power steering fo sho. Next we walked one length and then jogged back...he was right there with me. Oh the pace wasn't perfect but we had just met....he hadn't had a chance to train me right yet. Was with him for close to 45 minutes and never heard his voice once. He is quiet, dignified and companionable. I fell in love with him.

Went back in to adopt him and got the run around... "A guy saw him on our website and I'm holding him for that guy". And we are sending him out on the "Mobil Unit" tomorrow but if he's still here Monday". Well, I left with them giving me a promise to call me Monday if he is still there but the more I thought about it the madder I've gotten. After all, I was RIGHT THERE and ready to take him home..cash, check and credit cards all in hand. So this morning I called in before they even opened and they tell me he is gone.

Lagrange Animal shelter. Sure seems to me like those stories you hear about WalMart employees setting the 22's back for the buddies. I'm probably just wrong and too pissed off to care but dammit.

She's three months old. Her and two siblings got dropped off yesterday. She's fitting in with my other dog and likes all the kids. I had to put down my dog of 11 years a couple months ago and I've been looking for a new dog for one day. She's close to full blooded, not that it matters. After being home with her for 7 hours I can't believe someone would dump her at the pound.

So sorry to hear you had to put your buddy down, but it looks like you found another one! Congrats to you brother!

That's terrible. It sounds like a humane society shelter. I have similar story about the humane society in Atlanta. I took the wife and kids up there to look at dogs. My wife feel in love with one but it was too late in the day for the paperwork. She went back the next day and the **** doing her paperwork told her she couldn't have the dog because we had a toddler and someone had to approve the adoption, but they wouldn't until we brought the kids for a supervised visit. She didn't care if we did that the day before, it wasn't documented. We wife was crying all the was home. This was before we had a cell. We all went back to the pound only to see the dog being walked to the car of some shiftless looking 20yo. It wasn't even policy, it was just that one woman. If we got someone else to do the paperwork we could've taken her home.

I won't go a humane society shelter anymore. I go to country pounds. You can actually save a dog that would get out down, it's $25 instead of hundreds, and one page of paperwork instead of dozens.

When I called today the girl said something about the LaGrange shelter sharing the building with the Humane Society. I'm clueless. lol. I was expecting to pay $75 to adopt but some of those places in Newnan and Columbus want as much as $225. I'm just not going to do that. I'll have to hunt around a while. Then too I really did fall for that one so I'm not really feeling like looking at others. Didn't even know I wanted a Husky till I spent a little time with him. Beautiful dog.

^^^ I had to fill out all that paperwork to ADOPT / BUY a cat from the DeKalb Humane Society. I filled in $200 in the "What would you be willing to spend at a Veterinarian?" box. The lady questioned me and said that it could cost way more than $200 to deal with a serious issue. I replied - "I can get a NEW CAT for $100.00"... Her jaw hit the dang floor and I laughed it off like I was kidding - I wasn't...
