Looking for the do all pistol.

I love the Glocks. I decided to try out a fullsize XDm 9mm. I like it a lot. It really fits my hands, plus the 19+1 capacity is nothing to sneeze at. The trigger is nice, and the aftermarket supply of parts and accessories is there. I think I will rock this till I get tired of it and just have to trade again.

That seems to be a pretty common thing with the usp's. I have relatively small hands (He decided to endow me elsewhere) but HK nailed the ergonomics with the p30. But I wouldn't hesitate on the glock either, especially with cheaper aftermarket parts.

Sorry to hear about your huge ears and enormous nose.

Yeah, the Model 17 is WAY LIGHT, being chambered in .22 LR, the Model 19 that everyone seems to think SO HIGHLY OF is built a lil' light to stand up to a STEADY DIET of Magnum Loads, and the Model 27 & Model 28 are unnecessarily LARGE & HEAVY--686 FTW!...LOL!....mikey357

As a revolver for that role I would ( & originally did) go for either the 4" Ruger GP100 in Stainless Steel or a S&W Model 66.
The Ruger has a mid sized grip that fit my hand better ( and was easier to carry concealed than the big Goncalo Alves L- frame 686) , is so easy to break down & clean plus is an absolute tank that while being a bit heavy is tame w/ .38's & manageable w/ full power .357's.
As you mentioned the 686 is also a great choice in a revolver too.

******* EDITED ******** Oops, I missed your post where you said you already selected the Springfield XDM.

I think that's a fine choice too.

But if your first inclination was to go for a Glock, I'd have said that's a great idea too.

You know you like Glocks, and you want a full-sized pistol, so get the G17.
Or if you think that sometimes you'll want to carry it concealed, go with the G19.
Obviously you have other options outside of the Glock brand. Springfield, S&W, maybe Sig, FN, etc.
But there's nothing wrong with a G19 as a do-everything gun, or a G17 as a "do everything except carry fully concealed daily" gun.
As Protective Measures said, there are tons of aftermarket accessories and upgrades.
Factory Glock mags made for the 17 will fit in the 19, and those 33-rounders are a handy thing for a real SHTF scenario.

The only thing I don't like about Glocks is the grip angle, BUT, but... that might not apply to you. It's a personal preference and "what you're used to" thing.
I can shoot the heck out of a Glock, with great accuracy and speed, if I'm given some range time to get used to it.

Easy. Glock 22 with a 9mm conversion barrel. The 9mm and 40 S&W mags work interchangeably. I keep the 9mm barrel in mine and keep the original 40 S&W barrel in my Go Bag. That way I will have a higher likelihood of being able to use what I can find in SHTF.

Smith & Wesson Model 686 Four-incher FTW!... :) ....mikey357

Of course you would say something like this but there is more than one reason why a 686 is a fantastic all around, do it all handgun. I prefer the Model 19 or GP100 but any of them are fine weapons.

For all the reasons Protective Measures has listed, it is hard to argue that Glock is a great direction to go. I love the XDM also, so you made a solid choice.

Of course I would, because I believe it to be TRUE...With that ONE Revolver, I can safely Fire everything from "Bunny Fart" Target Loads that will barely penetrate Cardboard, to the Full-Bore 125-gr. SJHP Loads that are, Statistically speaking, the BEST MANSTOPPERS you can fire out of a reasonably sized Handgun, to 180-gr. Heavyweights that will take anything that walks on this Continent...

It will allow me to do all that while being completely INSENSITIVE to "Limp Wristing" OR the Shape of the Bullets in the Ammo it is fed OR the "Power Level" of the Ammo it is fed vis-a-vis it's reliability...One other thing--I can LOAD IT and LET IT SIT, UNattended, for many years without worrying about it's Striker Spring or Magazine Springs WEAKENING from full or partial COMPRESSION--So yes, make mine a Four-inch Model 686, please!... :) ....mikey357
