Low profile gas block question

I have a 12" extended hand rail that I am installing on a AR with a gas block with the rail on top up front (its the small rail gas block that comes on a DPMS Oracle), the rail will not fit over the rail block. Instead of buying a low profile gas block can I just grind down the rail block to make it fit under the extended rail?

You should be able to CAREFULLY grind it down to clear the quad rails...

That is exactly what I did with a factory front sight for my lightweight barrel... It was surprisingly hard to find an affordable 0.625" inside diameter low profile gas block.

I started with a band saw to get most of the bayo lug and sight tower off, then went to the milling machine to make it all nice and flat. Worked fine in the end.
