September 11, 2013 marks what would have been the 100th birthday for legendary Alabama head coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. To mark the occasion, the Bryant Museum on the campus of the University of Alabama is preparing for a special exhibit to commemorate the day. I grew up in Alabama and there was a time when the only thing positive reported about the State of Alabama in the news around the country was Bear Bryant and the football dynasty he built. I had the honor to graduate from Alabama in one of the National Championship years under the Bear.

Greatest coach ever. He would be proud of Bama today don't you think?.
Yes, I think he would be proud to see the success of the program he built.

Normally the Bear's choice of headgear was his checkered hat that become an instantly recognizable symbol of Alabama football. The photo below shows University of Alabama football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant wearing a helmet as he leaves Grant Field in Atlanta after the Crimson Tide defeated Georgia Tech on Nov. 14, 1964.
