Manual transmission. Need to learn ASAP

You just need to go around to the local car dealerships and test drive manual transmissions until you get the hang of it.

Please post the salesman's reaction during the first test drive!

That's hilarious but probably a decent idea. If you weren't all the way in Athens, I'd let you drive my wrangler.

It's super easy, off the gas, clutch in, shift, drop the clutch and get back on the gas. 1,2,3,2,1. The hardest part by far is starting from a stop. Here's how I learned. I saw a car I desperately wanted, went and traded my car for it. Then I told the person selling me the car I didn't know how to drive a stick and if they could show me. Fifteen minutes later I decided I had learned enough and If I waited any longer I would be late for work. (I was an hour away and had just enough time to get to work.) Needless to say, I stalled at nearly every red light and was late. I spent the better part of the next day driving around my neighborhood and had it down in just a few hours. Now it's *almost* second nature. Good luck to ya, if you weren't so far away I'd teach ya.

To bad your so far away would be more than happy to teach you in my car. I personally learned on a test drive a few years ago, scared the crap out of the dealer.

It just amazes me that everyone can't drive a stick, of course I'm older than dirt and learned in a 62 Falcon with three on the tree. I'd help but I'm 4 hours from you...

^^^^This^^^^ I could drive a 3 on the tree and four on the floor before I ever even got my learners license. My first car was a '67 Mustang with a 3 speed on the floor, my Dad was actually proud of me when I drove it off the lot like a pro. Lol
Before I got married I taught my wife how in a '74 Pinto in about 30 minutes at an empty K-Mart parking lot. She's out right now in my '94 Toyota truck 5 speed, she says it's fun to drive.

I taught myself in the driveway. If you release the clutch slowly until you get the hang of where the pressure point is, you can earn quickly. Good luck.

Get on a flat level surface, don't touch the gas, just ease out on the clutch until you can drive away from a stop without stalling. Once you have mastered that, start feeding in the gas. Big problem is people trying to get on the gas before they have learned the feel of the clutch.
