Marines not trusted with functional rifles?

Every rifle we used for retirement ceremonies I was at while in the Navy was non-operational. It was just the SOP for such ceremonies.

I agree with you. These were ceremonial rifles that are rendered inoperable by choice. I would add that the VMI Keydets marched in the same inaugation parade with functioning weapons. Their weapons were thoroughly inspected by the SS as were the Keydets prior to marching.

All that said 0bama is a douche and a complete disgrace as the CIC!

Title reminded me of a funny story from my navy days. I had to pull night desk duty at the OPCON center and answer phones while the duty officer slept. There was a marine sentry stationed there who stood at a podium. One night I guess he got bored and I noticed he was dropping a pencil down the barrel and popping it out by firing it. When I asked him about it he said one sentry had an accidental discharge so they couldn't have bullets anymore.

I think the secret service made them do that.

They probably didn't want a bunch of Marines running around with functional rifles because they weren't able to properly check them all out in a short period of time. I really don't blame them for that. You wouldn't anyone who didn't have the proper clearances and such to be armed at an event like that.

I am surprised that They wouldn't have just removed the firing pins or hammers, or something a bit less obvious.

I don't see any guns in that pic Bypass, but if you'd like I could post up similar shots with the current president...

There were guns all over the place. If you are going to try and counter a photo from my personal collection. Use a photo from your own that you or someone you personally know took.

I didn't take any pictures with the president. I like how "your" pic is the only one you'll trust. I just didn't know you once worked for the U.S. Navy taking official pictures, since that is an official U.S. military photograph from 2003...

Metadata from the official picture says your name is "Staff Sgt Reynaldo...." if this is your "personally taken" photo...
