Picked up a MAS 36 on auction still in the wrapper. It is an FH serial number so early 50's with early 70's on the paperwork that was still attached (I assume refurb date?). I unwrapped it carefully last night. It looks brand new, except appears to have been counter bored about 1/4 inch. I don't know why, the rifling looks brand new. Haven't gotten past unwrapping yet.

OK, so in my research today on the "counter bore", apparently that was on purpose. There was a 5 mm recess on the end of the barrel to protect the rifling. Stuck a quick caliper on it and sure enough it is about an 1/8 inch (looked closer to a quarter to me when just eyeballing). So feeling even better about this gun. Still trying to locate the white flag that my buddy said was supposed to come with it :)
