I like my 16" 7.62x39 too, but that 7" with a good cheek pad on the buffer is a real blast. I have several pistols, with KAK and SBC braces, from 7" to 10.5", but I don't care for any of the brace designs either. With my CZ Scorpion EVOs, Sig MPX, and AR pistols, my favorite is simply the foam cheek pad, especially with a folding design. For the 7.62x39 blast specifically, so close to the ears, I put in my foam plugs with a muff style set over the ears.
