My 1st and last ND Very nasty pics. I get to go back to work

Man, that is pretty wicked. I know it sucks, but glad it was just your hand and glad everyone else in the house was ok. I didn't read through the 30 some odd pages, but are all the fingers going to be recoverable?

I only know of one other story of a gun shot from someone close to home. It was a buddy and his roommate. The roommate had just got home, who is an EMT and was looking at a new gun the other friend had bought. He was talking to a girl that came over and without thinking, pulled the trigger while the gun was by his side. It didn't hit him, but the gun was angled and hit his roommate in the leg who was standing behind him. It ended up breaking his leg and was in a cast for some time, but wasn't nearly as gnarly as this one.

I lost my middle finger. I have not seen my hand since surgery. I go in on Monday for a follow up with the surgeon. I'll get to see my hand hopefully. I'll get more pictures and information on the extent of the injury itself.

I'm a bit surprised that someone from Ruger hasn't attempted contact with so many companies that peruse the interwebs for posts about their products and company. I'm rather certain that they'd like to look yours over to ensure there was no one in a trillion scenarios.

I've been out of town and read a few of the first posts but didn't have time for the others.

First of all, THANK YOU FOR POSTING!

I am so sorry that you lost a finger with this whole thing and I pray for a quick and speedy recovery for what's left.

BUT, you had big balls for posting and I pray that those who have seen this post will pay attention and avoid a ND like what you posted. Or worse.

Folks, let's be careful out there!

I think nearly everything possible has been said... nearly.
Don't hang your hat on being functional in a month. I had a good first phase of recovery - from an entirely different injury, true - but things slowed down after that.
Mind what the physical therapist says. After the open wounds heal, the rest of your recovery is up to you.

I can understand the interest in stringing the bullet for a caution and memento necklace. The lawyer here who was inadvertently shot in the butt by a cop has a nicely expanded hollowpoint he wears on church missions.

Ruger was sued many times by people who managed to shoot themselves through mishandling an Old Model Blackhawk with a round under the hammer. Apparently the customers' failure to follow directions was not an adequate defense. So every Ruger revolver since has had a transfer bar action, and they will convert an old one if they get their hands on it, even if for some other work.
That "forensic gunsmith" would have his work cut out for him trying to make a case that a current production Ruger went off by itself.

prepare yourself. It's going to look a mess and will look worse before it looks better. Give it time, mind your therapist, and take care of your wounds exactly as they say. If you do all of those things you'll be pleased with your recovery. Stay stubborn and be vigilant with your rehabilitation, just remember that you can do anything you want if you get your mind right and don't settle for less.
