Stewart-Haas Racing to switch from Chevrolet to Ford in 2017

The team will get its engines from Roush Yates Engines, which supplies motors to all of the Ford-supported Sprint Cup teams. The length of the multiyear deal with Ford was not announced.

SHR will join a Ford camp that in 2017 will include potentially 14 cars with Team Penske, Roush Fenway Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports, Wood Brothers Racing and Front Row Motorsports. Ford last won the season title in 2004 with Busch, when he drove for Roush Fenway Racing.

When: Sunday, February 28; 1:16 p.m./et

Weather: Sunny with a high around 65; wind out of the SW at 7 mph. There is a ZERO percent chance of precipitation.

The Track: Atlanta MotorSpeedway

Atlanta Motor Speedway is a very wide 1.5 mile oval. It has 24 degree banking on the corners. The fast surface and steep banking make it the fastest track on the NASCAR circuit.

Key to Race: WHO CAN HANDLE THE NEW PACKAGE?

NASCAR will launch its low-downforce aero package this weekend at Atlanta. The changes will cause the cars to be quite a bit looser and hopefully in closer packs than usual. Races with a similar setup last year at Kentucky and Darlington were entertaining events. Penske Racing was terrific at Kentucky and Darlington last season with Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano leading the most laps. Joe Gibbs Racing’s stable of Toyotas also will be tough to beat. The Toyotas just appear to have a bit of an advantage early in the season. Additionally the well-worn racing surface at Atlanta tends to be hard on tires. Look for at least a handful of crew chiefs to take some chances and try and win the race with unique pit strategies. If this happens a driver could come from the middle-of-the-pack to steal the checker flag.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot freaking believe it!

Ford must have dropped alot of $$$ to get Stewart to switch. You know they don't have as many top tier drivers as Chevy, and Toyotas pretty much dominating right now so I guess it may be a good strategic move for the Stewart Haas Racing
