Need bicycle advice

I used to do off road triathlons, mostly on road tho, and I wouldn't get a full suspension bike unless you are willing to spend a few thousand dollars. The cheap ones are heavy and extremely inefficient with the energy yo u expend to pedal the bike. The bike bobs up and down instead of applying the energy to the back wheel. Good ones are not to be had for anywhere near less than a grand.

I recently bought a bike for my 12 year old son from Performance Bicycle in Roswell. I don't see how anyone can compete with their price and selection. I spent less than $500, and his bike would certainly be good enough for me to hit the trails. Stay out of the big box stores. They basically sell Highpoints, super heavy bikes. Stay out. And I would 100% buy a bike only if it had disk brakes.

I bet there are some awesome sales going on. They have a huge web business. When I was racing I spent lots of money with them. Great value.

Trek is a great bike, I've got a Trek 1.2 road bike that I've put a couple hundred miles on, and never had a problem. I rode the Savannah century on it a few years ago, but I don't have much time to ride anymore. I keep going back and forth with the idea of selling it.

I want to go on record telling folks here that if you are within 2 hrs of Dalton it's worth going there to get Shane to get you into the right bike at the right price. I got into cycling in 2012 and tried to find a good fit at several local stores but never got the warm and fuzzies.

Went to a clinic that Shane put on for free and he spent more time with me as a stranger than any of the shops I was spending money in.

Since the. I've bought several bikes from Shane and I can't begin to say enough about the customer service and how well they stand behind their products. And who doesn't love a bike shop that sells high end knives and whose owner can out shoot 99% of the people that walk through the door. N

Lazarus, you made the right choice. Come up and ride with us here in Dalton sometime. Any of you other mountainbikers need to come up and take a bite out of The Snake race this year.

^ Love the Snake race. One of the best rides/races in GA.

And most inportantly, stay out of the middle of the road please.

Good advice. I ride alone a lot and get all kinds of close calls from people not paying attention or don't realize bicycles have the same rights to the road as any other vehicle. Bicycles supposed to get a 3 foot buffer but sometimes I have gotten maybe 3 inches. lol.
