Hey All,

Please, if you know someone who clears/grades in the North GA/Western NC area and who won't try to date rape me, let me know. Have funds and am good to go asap.
Added bonus if the company does well and septic.

I have slightly less than 8 acres of nicely laying land in the Western NC mountains.
Need some clearing and grading for 2 homesites including approx. 600-700 feet of gravel driveway.

Several trees are on the ground that were cut about 3 months ago. Stumps were left to make it easy for a tractor etc. to push over. I would like to save and stack a lot of the hardwood that's on the ground, the few pines not so much.

A few more trees need to come down, including the last remaining pines. One homesite at the hilltop is relatively flat, the other will need more dirt moved but is not steep at all.

I've gotten several quotes from folks in the area, and most of them seem pretty keen on me paying off their toys. Sorta like the whole town got together and said, "He ain't from around here, let's nail him!" It has been pretty frustrating.

Would really like to knock this out soon. Please let me know if there is anyone you would recommend for the job. Thanks, ODT!

PM's are good, since I may spot them quicker. And I can provide as much info on the project as you need.

Be sure you get your permits.

The authorities go after the landowner, even if the landowner believed the contractor was permitted.

I will, thanks. Have permits for the clearing and grading, tho I may need to renew them by the time I finally get someone to do the job. Both sites have septic permits. Far enough away from the creek, but you can still hear it.

I know several folks that were in your situation. They all bought something like this

And did the work themselves. Then sold the loader for about their purchase price.

Clearing contractors get huge money for what they do, it isn't just your location.

I know they make bank everywhere, just had the distinct impression that some of these guys got together and decided to charge me "Atlanta prices."
I have a neighbor up there who a few mo. ago suggested we could go in together on a small used tractor that we could use afterward for farming, smoothing gravel driveways and any number of things. Don't think she'd go in with me on something that substantial, which I would need to get some of the bigger jobs done at first. Plus then it might be too big for some of the lighter chores afterwards. I don't know... It definitely wouldn't hurt to call her and revisit the idea.

Hire a local grader. It's expensive to move machinery
I was going to hire a local grader, still would. Had several come and look at my land for that purpose. I'll pony up, just was hoping not to get fleeced. :( Do you think it would be cost prohibitive to move a small tractor 2-3 hours? Wondering what someone would charge.
