Need info on this, not sure about it.

There was a 1917 similar to this, hanging on the wall for decor, behind the cash register at the Western Sizzlin in Gainesville back in the late 80s- early 90s. Very well liked couple ran the establishment and a great place for a steak dinner. Wish I had a time capsule.
 
Whoever applied the nickle or chrome finish also plated the hammer and trigger, covering up the normal S&W color case hardening on those parts.

I`ve heard refinishes like this derisively called "bumper jobs", something that might have been done at a shop that re plates chrome automobile bumpers.

I think the chance of it being a special military presentation piece, as someone opined, is zero.

I would consider its only value as a cheap(ish) shooter, I`d guess $350.00 or $450.00, tops.
