no Mosin, let's not temp him with open carry lol

A wheel gun is the answer, classic, beautiful (if it is not a Rhino) and if they ever ban magazines the revolver will probably still be good to go!! No, not a Taurus, not a Charter, but more classic S&W, Colt...

nice deer rifle is my vote

i would get a stainless rem700 (or alike) with a nice wood stock in a solid caliber (.308 or 30-06 i would say) and get it engraved. thats something that will last a lifetime and then some.

an engraved pistol, i would never carry and probably never shoot.

First response gets my vote. Nothing like a family heirloom hunting rifle. Also, if you have it engraved, I would go with the last name only. Then he will pass it down and the grandchildren will proudly have something to display, hunt with, or whatever. Best of luck with your decision.

A very nice wheel gun is my second choice.

The best gift is one you would love to have but never spend the money on yourself. With that in mind, I think a double barrel shotgun is your best bet, especially if he is a fan of them. You cannot go wrong with a browning if can spare the cash. I've always wanted one and have never found the money in the budget to afford one.

Personally, I second the S&W 686. They're beautiful guns. My dad had several before I came along and boy I wish he had one to pass down.

I could not agree more about the Browning shotguns. They are incredible shooters and beautiful to say the least. A double barrel would be completely awesome. I do not know if I would hunt with it, though. Almost too beautiful. Listening to all the opinions, now I can't make up my mind what I would do. Good luck. I don't think we're going to be much help.

Actually you guys have been lots of help. You're really reading my mind. Wheel gun.. One that I always wanted but never spent the money on. Same thing with the sshotty. S&W 686 or Shotty are tops on my list. The Colt 1911 following closely in 3rd. Appreciate it guy's.
