I have managed to keep it $800 and under. You have to be patient and know who to buy from over on the CMP boards.

Cool. What do you generally pay for a receiver?

I will tell you. it depends on who you know. Seriously. Have a great buyer relationship and they will hook you up. All the sellers know they make more $ parting out Garands than selling whole rifles.

How did the other field grades look and gauge?

Out of the 7 FGs they had, 4 or 5 had ME & TE service grade readings. I believe they were marked FG due to stocks being a little rougher than SG and in the case of the one I picked, the gas cylinder had no finish and was banged up some. I'm warming up to Field Grades if there are more like this one available.

That's what I am thinking! Stocks are easy to refinish or buy another. Or heck who cares just use it!

Like minds. I kind of like the rifle to show some history. The last one I bought had 14 deliberate notches on the stock.
