New to fishing, need some info (light weight/compact fishing gear)

Thanks for the advice everyone! Stopped at bass pro this weekend and picked up one of their segmented travel rods and a Shimano reel that can handle 10lb line. Also got a super small tackle box and a good selection of tackle/lures (this was the hardest part, its tough to pick stuff out when you dont know WTF youre looking at haha). Thanks again for the input yall, going to try it all out soon and I'll let you know how it goes. Spent about 30 minutes with a practice caster in the backyard and the combo is working pretty smoothly so far.

Let us know how the trip to Cumberland went.........caught a few flounder down there last week.....a bit too early (IMO) for specs (sea trout) as the water is still a little cold but you might get lucky. if you catch a female spec throw her back.......the cold winter is belived to have seriously depleted the population.
