New (to me) 1863 Springfield Rifled Musket in Fine Condition!

That is cool stuff. I really appreciated how good condition the wood was under the barrel. Very nice.
The tricky bit is next. I need to get that lock plate removed without damaging the wood.
Oil lightly around the lock, thenback out the lock screws 1/8" at a time and tap them gently
That's what I did. There was a slight crack in the back near the lock on the inside (not visible from outside) that's no worse after removal. Interesting to see the fire blue on the screws holding the buttplate on the stock. The inside looks great! No rust no old grease. No signs of burning or firing really. Pics up in a bit.

You're disassembling it so you can send it to me for a Cerakote job right? Don't worry about that rust, I'll media blast that junk right off. I'm thinking a battleworn Yankee zombie green theme but I'll leave that up to you
