New-to-me M1 Carbine

I took an M1 in on collateral for a loan. The gentleman told me it was his grandfathers 'bring home'. It's in an m1a1 stock. Underwood wartime receiver and barrel but I doubt it was the stock that was 'original' . My understanding is only Inlands had those stocks. ?

Correct only Inland made the Paratrooper stock. The stock alone if authentic is worth more than a carbine. Stick it on an Inland and viola.

Yours look like it's in great condition!!

I've got a Winchester but the receiver is an "Underwood strikethrough" evidently as Winchester received a bunch of Underwood receivers and built into "Winchester" rifles. Guessing mine is late 1942 from what I can gather from the serial number.

some day I'd like to take it (and my Smith Corona 1903A3) to someone who knows more about them and get some more details about it and it's build/history.

Sold the one I had decades ago, and have wanted another for quite some time now. Thanks to an early birthday present from a buddy, I’ve got one again.

Late 1943 Standard Products. Probably arsenal-rebuilt at some time, as the barrel is a Rock-Ola. From what I’ve read, that isn’t one of the barrel suppliers for Standard Products.

Already got plenty of ammo and USGI mags.

Happy with it, and I’ll get to the range as soon as I can.

I had an Inland Korean reimport I bought at Old South Pawn in South Macon for under $300.00 back in 92/93 and then I sold/traded it to a friend who owned Macon Gun and Pawn in 95. Regretted it every day since then.
So about two years ago I traded into an early Universal with mostly surplus parts from a member down near Albany. Yeah it's not the same as original surplus rifles but considering what those go for these days it's as close as I could get. And like a dozen other guns here I ain't had a chance to shoot it yet.
I've said it before but what the hell...When I was first into guns in grade school in the early 80s the M1 Carbine was THE tactical carbine. Very few people owned ARs back then since most people didn't want one. But the M1 Carbine had a long proven track record. I'll most likely never part with this one and would definitely get another more legit version of I got the chance.

I still believe they're the perfect carbine for home defense or teaching new shooters (beyond 22 rifles) and even in the truck gun role. Lightweight,no recoil, non threatening appearance etc. What's not to like?

Looks even better now. Gave her a good cleaning. Scrubbed the stock down with a 50/50 mix of turpentine and BLO.

The BLO usually gives good results.

I like the carbine a lot more than the AR. And I've used one for more than 40yrs. But I have to admit, the carbine won't out shoot an AR platform
