Same song as MAIG, VPC and Brady bunch. Advance to reinstate a ban on military-style assault weapons, close loopholes that allow gun buyers to skirt background checks and restrict high-capacity ammunition clips.

"DID YOU KNOW? The majority of Americans, including police chiefs, gun owners, NRA members, “blue state” voters and high school students, support common sense gun laws."

Background Checks

•94 percent of police chiefs favor requiring a Brady criminal background check for all handgun sales (Thompson, p. 309).
The same cheifs who were appointed by their mayors and how many responded that support MAIG? How about the number of non-responders? How much support from Joyce or Bloomberg went directly or indirectly to this "research".
American Journal of Preventive Medicine 30(4) (April 2006):305-312

•82 percent of police chiefs favor requiring a background check for all rifle and shotgun sales (Thompson, p. 309).

•87 percent of Americans support background checks on private sales of guns, including sales at gun shows (Greenberg, Appendix A).
Sample taken where and wording of survey? Is there truthful awareness of how little little this will impact crime?

•87 percent of “new blue” voters in the states of Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia support background checks for all gun sales, including those at gun shows (Green, p. 3).
Ok a professional polling organization paid for by who? Wording and sampling data please. MAIG is all over the cover.

•87% of non-NRA gun owners support requiring a criminal background check of anyone purchasing a gun (Luntz, 2012).
Another poll? Really? Who paid for it both directly and indirectly, where was it taken and sample size.

•74% of NRA gun owners support requiring a criminal background check of anyone purchasing a gun (Luntz, 2012).

•69 percent of NRA gun-owners support requiring all gun sellers at gun shows to conduct criminal background checks of the people buying guns (Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG, p. 5);

•92 percent of high school students support background checks for all sales (Vittes, p. 471).
Law Enforcement Tools to Thwart Corrupt Gun Dealers
A survey condicted by a University of California Public Health Department, nothing to see here.

•A majority of Americans strongly favor manufacturers requiring dealers to adopt a code of conduct for sales and distribution of its handguns (National Shooting Sports Foundation, p. 48).
Is there a real issue with this? Any manufacturer violated any code recently other than the Federal Government (Fast and Furious)?

•86 percent of Americans, including 83 percent of gun owners, support requiring gun retailers to inspect their own inventories at least once a year to make sure no guns have been stolen or gone missing (Greenberg, p. 3).
They don't track this more often already?

•80 percent of Americans, including 80 percent of gun owners, support requiring gun dealers whose licenses have been revoked from selling their guns without a background check (Greenberg, p. 3).
Really? Just how big of a problem is a dealer who ceases to be a dealer (per his choice) shuts down and now is forced to run every gun through NCIS? How much? It would set the stage to outlaw all "private sales" between honest citizens (the vast greater number)

Bulk Sales of Handguns

•65 percent of Americans support limiting handgun purchases to one per person per month (Greenberg, Appendix A).
Who does this really effect? Again look at the source.

•59 percent of gun owners support limiting handgun purchases to one per person per month (Smith, 2003, p. 53).
Who paid, the sample set and wording- University of Chicago, National Opinion Research Center, December 2003

•57 percent of “new blue” voters in the states of Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia support limiting the number of guns that can be bought at one time (Green, p. 3).

Assault Weapons

•82 percent of Americans support limiting the sales of military-style assault weapons (Smith, 2007, p. 1).
More than what is current for semi-auto rifles? Wording, sample set ets and just who paid for this (Joyce, MAIG etc?)-National Opinion Research Center, University of Chicago, March 2007

•68 percent of “new blue” voters in the states of Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia support banning military-style assault weapons (Green, p. 3).
"Green"-Green R, and M. Bechak, Post-Election Analysis: Sensible Gun Laws Build Bridges Not Burn Them to Moderates, McCain, and Even Gun Owners in a Post-Heller World, Washington, DC: Penn, Schoen, and Berland Associates, Inc., November 18, 2008
Is this really a valid resource or someone with an agenda?

License/Permit to Purchase a Gun

•70 percent of American voters mistakenly believe that a system of licensing and registration already exists in the U.S. (Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence, 2001).
Really, then how within minutes-hours did they know the guns at Sandy Hook were Nancy Lanza's and lawfully purchased? Just what is the federal form completed at purchase really used for? If the point is to outlaw all "private sales" and set into place a registration system of all gun transfers (except the real illegal ones) then correct.

•79 percent of Americans supports requiring a police permit before the purchase of a gun (Smith, 2007, p. 1).
So an NCIS check is not enough. More bureaucracy will make us safer, right? Smith, Tom W., Public Attitudes Towards the Regulation of Firearms, Chicago, IL: National Opinion Research Center, University of Chicago, March 2007
Right?

•63 percent of gun owners support requiring a police permit before the purchase of a gun (Smith, 2003, p. 53).
Like the one in New York? When was the last permit issued there? No issues there?

•70 percent of “new blue” voters in the states of Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia support registration of gun sales and licensing of gun owners (Green, p.3).
I now need to be registered? So I am now considered a liability. Thanks! For all who choose to allow others to help keep you safe by responsible gun ownership.

•90 percent of high school students support requiring a permit to purchase (Vittes, p. 471).
Registration of Guns
Sampling methods, agenda, funding/contibutions etc. all come to mind

•70 percent of American voters mistakenly believe that a system of licensing and registration already exists in the U.S. (Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence, 2001).

•69 percent of police chiefs support mandatory registration of handguns (Thompson, p. 309).

•79 percent of Americans support requiring gun owners to register their guns with the local government (CNN/Opinion Research Corporation, 2008).
Their source link doesn't exist anymore?

•61 percent of gun owners support registration of handguns (Smith, 2003, p. 53).

•59 percent of NRA members favor mandatory registration of handguns (Weil, p. 53).

•70 percent of “new blue” voters in the states of Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia support registration of gun sales and licensing of gun owners (Green, 2008).

•96 percent of high school students support mandatory registration of guns (Vittes, p. 471).
Waiting Period
•77 percent of NRA members favor a waiting period for the purchase of a handgun (Weil, p. 53).

•73 percent of “new blue” voters in the states of Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia support a five-day waiting period for handgun sales (Green, p.3).
Guns on Campus

•86 percent of campus police chiefs disagree or strongly disagree that allowing students to carry concealed weapons on campus would prevent some or all campus killings (Thompson, p. 250).
SOLUTION: Without stronger, sensible gun laws, thousands upon thousands of people will continue to die and be injured needlessly each year. The Brady Campaign fights for sensible gun laws to protect you, your family, and your community.

Those are statistics!

I don't know where to find this but in 2009 the GA State Senate passed Resolution 632 that says Georgia can secede from the union if the federal gov enacts any further gun or ammo bans or restrictions among a few other reasons. Maybe someone can put a link up to find it. I just read about it on the Arfcom GA HTF site. I wonder how many of our elected officials remember signing off on that and still feel that way. I think that's pretty extreme but it does make a point on how we feel about the issue
