No love for the .40

I made my choice with caliber based upon platform and the performance I could get out of the pistol and caliber. So I ended up with 1911 in .45 and snubbie revolver in .357 magnum. My back-up is a NAA Blackjack in 22mag that is pretty wicked for it's small size when loaded with Hornady Critical Defense.

Protective Measures had it right, focus on what works for you. A gun on your person that you have confidence in is better than the cool gun left at home.

That is why I don't use .40. I feel or think that I am inherently inaccurate with the round so I don't use it.

If power in a semi auto is what you want some of you guys need to shoot my converted Range Officer in .460 Rowland. It is a pistol you can carry, it holds 8 + 1 and it has the power of a approximately a .44 magnum. I use it now b/c it makes my old 1006 10mm look like a pansy. It is costly to practice with though so it is a back-up during hunting trips and a companion to
my Colt Python when I'm taking a "walk" in the "woods".

Find what works for you and get really proficient with it. Afterwards, worry about getting the cool stuff and trying out new guns and calibers.

nowadays i lean more toward smaller guns. even 9mm can be a handful. the 40 is ok to me in a fullsize. g22's are a joy to shoot.

40 is an easy caliber to shoot if you shoot full sized guns. The compacts and below do recoil a bit but its not unmanagable. More like you have to have a more aggressive grip with them. They are not 22s. Personally I think 9 can do anything any other pistol caliber can but I have a 40 for duty carry so I keep 40 caliber glocks with 9mm drop in barrels as an insurance policy just in case...

Fine caliber, I own 2 or 3 of them myself. It's just not an interesting caliber for me though.

Could be many similar feelings amongst several my age?
I'd come closer to thinking it's more of a market saturation though?

As I've read, it's so many here's 1st handgun, that they already have one, or more em'.

For the biggest part, I've been more of a target shooter than anything else, and the .40 cal
really doesn't have a place as a target round for me . It's been .45's, .38's and .22's in my
life.

The .40's I own are for defensive use. I own them, well not because I think they're any better
or worse than anything else? I own them because I found great pistols chambered in .40
at a good price.

I tend to believe it's more a case of market demand, than anything else. It wasn't just a few years
back that a 9 was hard to move, and many thought the 1911 was dead?

Well, Here is a comparison of 556(AR) and a handgun:
Bullet weight/type Velocity Energy
4 g (62 gr) SS109 FMJBT 940 m/s (3,100 ft/s) 1,767 J (1,303 ft·lbf)
300 gr (19 g) FTX LEVERevolution 2,075 ft/s (632 m/s) 2,868 ft·lbf (3,888 J)

OK. I don't get it.
