OA requested to see NFA stamp

He was being a douche. They have zero authority to enforce Federal law, zero training to spot fake paperwork and no business asking for personal information.

This. You should have asked him to show you his ATF, or other LEA badge first. A business has no legal exposure to someone operating an "illegal" weapon on their range. He was just being a nosy dick. I'd at least send an email or letter to AO management that their wannabeagentincharge nearly lost them a customer.

The RO did have the right to ask to see your stamp if that is company policy. Their range, their rules.

I know a bunch of people here are going to tell you that they would've kicked him in the dick and stomped his face while he was down, but I don't really see the big deal. I'd have just showed it to him and been done with it.

Now that you know that they're going to ask to see your stamp, you just have to decide if you want to go back or not.

It's our club policy that if an officer of the club or a CRO or RO asks to see your stamp that you show it to them.
We don't want illegal NFA firearms on the club property.
That's why we ask.

On occasion, someone has said "Oops I forgot it", then I ask them to case the gun and put it back in their car because they'll not be shooting that firearm today at the club.

After awhile you get to know who's who and I just ask if they have the paperwork with them.
They say, "yes" and that's good enough for me. Lots of the fella's have made up little laminated cards that they keep on a large key ring and they always have the key ring with them.
I think that's a pretty slick way of doing things!

One guy refused to show his paperwork and is no longer a member of the club.
So I guess it's a pretty serious thing and impacts our insurance.
