OA requested to see NFA stamp

I'd said ok and put my hand in my pocket like I'm looking then pull my hand out my pocket and give him my middle finger and say I got it right here.

... and then exit, stage right.

But seriously, their place of business, their rules. I don't particularly like the rules, but we're trying to be libertarian all around here with private rights.

It's our club policy that if an officer of the club or a CRO or RO asks to see your stamp that you show it to them.
We don't want illegal NFA firearms on the club property.
That's why we ask.

On occasion, someone has said "Oops I forgot it", then I ask them to case the gun and put it back in their car because they'll not be shooting that firearm today at the club.

After awhile you get to know who's who and I just ask if they have the paperwork with them.
They say, "yes" and that's good enough for me. Lots of the fella's have made up little laminated cards that they keep on a large key ring and they always have the key ring with them.
I think that's a pretty slick way of doing things!

One guy refused to show his paperwork and is no longer a member of the club.
So I guess it's a pretty serious thing and impacts our insurance.
Stop making sense, I'm talking tough here lol

This is why I don't get into the ATF/shooting range gang rape STAMP game.

I understand, I see amazing firearms, suppressors, full auto and short barreled guns regularly.
I see those key rings with the laminated cards on them and there might be 50 or 100 cards there.
It looks like something you could get "hooked" on like drugs or tatoo's or something, lol.
It's scary, lol.

I'm almost certain it's an insurance thing...

I highly doubt that. That's what everyone says for stupid policies and most of it isn't true. So you think when AO went to get insurance for their shooting range they checked the boxes "yes, we allow NFA items" and "yes, we promise to check the papers to ensure it's legit"?

I know a bunch of people here are going to tell you that they would've kicked him in the dick and stomped his face while he was down, but I don't really see the big deal. I'd have just showed it to him and been done with it.

First of all, literal lol at "kicked him in the dick."

Secondly, you really don't see the big deal? For me it's five-fold.
  1. Presumption of guilt. Why ask for documentation unless you believe me to be in violation?
  2. Inequity. Are you asking for 4473's or Bills of Sale from all of your other customers?
  3. Severe Overstep of Authority. While I understand that a private business can have any measures in place they see fit, even local LE do not have the authority to produce ATF paperwork. Way, way out of line on their part.
  4. Lack of training. What qualifications does an RO at Adventure Effing Outdoors have to validate ATF paperwork? Would he even know a fake if he saw one?
  5. Disclosure of private information. I take issue with a range that holds my GADL as well, for the record.

As if we needed yet another, in string of many reasons to dislike that stupid place..... :tsk:
