My lovely wife would like to take a day trip to the beautiful N. Ga. mountains and get some apples. I need recommendations on the best places for her to have a fabulous day in an apple orchard and take her someplace to eat. I hate crowds as much as you hate the tourists that deluge your beautiful towns, so we would probably do this on a Friday. When is the ideal time to do this?
I promise not to fall in love with the mountains and move up there and crowd your mountain tops, just a day trip to make her happy.
Thank you all.

lunch or dinner in either of these spots in Clayton, GA:

mercer
If you mean Mercier (pronounced mehr-see-a), it's turned into Apple Disney World. Constantly slammed with fatties, methheads, and snot nosed kids.

I used to travel from Dahlonega to Blairsville on the regular and used hwy52. Several orchards/parks/pumpkins patches along the route and it got so bad I wouldn’t travel on the weekends. Since the cvid, the weekdays are almost as bad now. Fridays are just as bad as the weekend. I’d suggest a Tuesday or Wednesday and start early morning if you’re looking to avoid the madness. Mercer may be a better option as theres not as much around. Theres at least a half dozen of these tourist traps on Hwy 52 so it seems to get the most traffic.

P.s. If you hate tourists as much as we do, we would welcome you to the mountain’s!

It can be crowded some days with elderly travel groups but since I was young we always would try to go to panorama orchards in elijay and get a fried apple pie, cider, different jams and apple butters, and tons of different apple strains.
