Omega may have agreed to it as a way to market to a younger generation and feed them uphill over time to the $8k version. Overall my guess is that as Omega is owned by the Swatch Group they likely didn't have full control over the choice.

For me - I like the style of the Speedmaster (especially the twisted lugs) but will never spend the dollars necessary to own one. If I can get a cheap version with the Omega name on it, I'm in.

Swatch owns Omega.

I once knew a guy that could tell you what time it was within a few minutes any time of day. He never wore a watch or had access to a time piece.....Uncanny......
